The Microsoft-Plurk Christmas Carol
Microsoft seemingly stole the code from microblogging site Plurk and used it to launch its own service in China. Here’s the story, as told through a familiar Christmas carol.
Sung to the tune of “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas”:
It’s beginning to look a lot like a rip off
Halfway ’round the globe
Take a look at the MSN, Juku site again
Some programmer just up and stole the code
It’s beginning to look a lot like a rip off
What a bunch of jerks
But it isn’t too hard to see, that Microsoft said: “Gee –
No one’s heard of Plurk.”
A long bar where you scroll and a box where you troll
Was the wish of MSN
It was on Plurk without hardly a quirk
The programmers said “Amen!”
Now Microsoft has given joy to every comedian
It’s beginning to look a lot like a rip off
Halfway ’round the globe
Now Microsoft’s pulled the plug, Bill Gates can only shrug
The guys at Plurk, they want to see a probe
It’s beginning to look a lot like a rip off
Soon, the lawsuits come
And the lawyers will say “cha-ching!” as Microsoft feels the sting
All because they’re dumb
