Free Apple iPad Giveaways Cutting Into Sales, Apple Reports

eSarcasm is not the only site giving away a new Apple iPad — and that’s cutting into Apple’s bottom line.

The story you're about to read is not (entirely) true. It is, however, more accurate than most things on network television.

Apple iPad sales are down sharply this month due to a rash of free Web giveaways, eSarcasm has learned.

At presstime, more than 7,842 different sites were promising to give away versions of the Apple Wonder Tablet in exchange for filling out surveys, following them on social media sites, consuming alcohol, or simply as a desperate plea for attention.

“The Apple iPad has become the free Web swag of choice,” notes one analyst who declined to give us his name unless we gave him a free iPad 3G. “So many people giving away iPads that consumers figure it’s just a matter of time before they win one.”

InkJetSuperStore, for example, is giving away an Apple iPad for people who ‘Like’ them on Facebook. (Of course, you’ll also have to get your name pulled from a hat — they aren’t complete simpletons.) The UK’s BuckyBingo site is awarding an iPad to a customer chosen at random who enjoys a bit of online gambling and has really bad teeth.

The Silver City Restaurant and Brewery in the great state of Washington is giving away an Apple iPad, too. All you have to do is go there, drink a brew or two, and get very very lucky. (Which, coincidentally, is also our dating strategy.)

And that doesn’t even include the offers that are total scams.

Full Disclosure: In partnership with Fibers.com, eSarcasm is also giving away a free Apple iPad to winners of the "I May Be Fashion Challenged But I’m Smarter Than You" T-Shirt Design Challenge. (But our iPad is nicer than the rest of theirs.) All you have to do is design a T-shirt funny enough to pass our extremely low high standards for humor and tastefulness.

Offers for favors of a sexual nature will also be considered. Enter now before we’re too exhausted from all those free HJs.
