A Tweeting Toilet? With Twitter’s @anywhere, @anything Is Possible

Twitter’s new @anywhere service aims to bring the microblog where no tweets have gone before — including toilets, vibrators, and human organs. An eSarcasm exclusive.

The story you're about to read is not (entirely) true. It is, however, more accurate than most things on network television.

In his South by Southwest keynote yesterday, Twitter co-flounder Evan Williams unveiled a bold new plan to embed Twitter directly into every object on earth. It’s name? "@anywhere."

Exactly what "@anywhere" is or does, however, is a little vague. The company would only release details about the program 140 characters at a time, and then only in cryptic Biz Speak.

"With @anywhere, web site owners and operators will be able to offer visitors more value with less heavy lifting," says the company blog, offering relief to hernia sufferers worldwide.

We know it involves something called "Hovercards," which are like Michael J. Fox’s skateboard in the Back to the Future movies, only different.

Still, we have a few ideas about how @anywhere might be implemented:

Correction: In a story that appeared on TechCrunch yesterday, Robin Wauters reported that Twitter would be unveiling its new "ad platform" at SXSW, not its new "@ platform." Apparently Wauters had just gone swimming and his ears were still clogged when he got the news. We’re printing this correction here, because we know TechCrunch never will. eSarcasm is highly amused by regrets the error.
